MA project I: Negotiating constructions of religious buildings

Deadline: 31 May 2015

With a pluralistic, ethnically and religiously diverse Norway as the backdrop, we invite a student to conduct an MA project studying how different local actors position themselves and act in relation to the construction of religious buildings in particular locations. The study will be comparative, with case-studies of two (or more) different construction processes of religious buildings, one a mosque, and the other, for instance, a temple. The starting point of the study is the claim that the construction of religious buildings in local neighborhoods is likely to have an impact. What sorts of reactions are those? How are such buildings received? How are different reactions managed and negotiated? And what are the outcomes and implications for the actors involved, with regard to a shared sense of community, of unity and of difference?
