PRIO invites applications for a 50% part-time position as Coordinator of the Norwegian Centre for Humanitarian Studies (NCHS).

The NCHS is creating a network connecting relevant ongoing research on humanitarian efforts, in Norway and internationally. In this connection, the centre will form a platform for exchange among researchers and establish stronger and more tailored mechanisms for mutual exchanges with policy makers and practitioners, as well as the broader public, thus improving the quality of research and better analysing challenges raised in the humanitarian sector. The NCHS started in 2012 as a collaboration between CMI, NUPI and PRIO. The new NCHS Research network on humanitarian efforts is funded by a grant from the Research Council of Norway. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team of researchers across the three institutes and work closely with the NCHS Director in the development, planning and management of Centre activities.

As a NCHS Coordinator, you are expected to:

  • Help with the running of the Centre activities
  • Serve as the contact person of the NCHS network
  • Manage the NCHS’ webpage, blog, Facebook and Twitter accounts
  • Plan and organize conferences, workshops and seminars, network meetings
  • Represent the NCHS at external meetings and take notes from such meetings 
  • Participate in meetings and activities of NCHS
  • Perform other tasks as agreed with the NCHS Director

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in the social sciences or humanities, or other relevant fields, preferably on a topic relevant to the NCHS
  • Some relevant work experiences
  • ICT skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well being a team player
  • Fluency in English. Good knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is preferred, but not required
  • Excellent writing skills

The NCHS Coordinator is a 50% part-time, temporary position for the period of 1 March 2019, through 31 December 2019, with the possibility of extension.
