PRIO’s purpose is to conduct research for a more peaceful world, and we are committed to using the best of what technology has to offer in achieving that purpose. To help us choose, develop and manage our technology, PRIO invites applicants for a position as an Information Technologist.

The successful candidate will join a small, newly-formed team of technical support staff. This team will pursue key goals set out in our current IT strategy, where our ambition is to formulate and follow best practices that will allow for innovative uses of technology while ensuring robust information security, efficient management, user-friendliness and user happiness.

PRIO currently uses a range of technologies in our day-to-day operations. We maintain a small server park with several virtualization solutions running both open-source and proprietary software stacks. We utilize a range of SaaS offerings and aim to expand our cloud infrastructure. Endpoint hardware and software is highly varied to cover equally varied user needs. As our new Information Technologist, you will maintain and develop both existing and new technologies and take ownership of key systems. You will provide active and reactive support to users to solve problems and improve digital skills, and be able to develop your own skills according to need and interest.

Day-to-day tasks include:

  • Advising the institute and its users on beneficial use of technology
  • Provisioning hardware and software for staff to use
  • Maintaining our hardware and software stacks
  • Developing training material and documentation

Team activities include:

  • Implementing new technologies on-premises, in the cloud and in the field
  • Training staff in efficient and safe use of these technologies
  • Providing technical support for staff on demand
  • Maintaining and further developing our information security standards

You should fulfil the following requirements:

  • Possess both experience and interest in the field of information technology
  • Have knowledge of and confidence in newer digital technologies, and an interest in learning
  • Work well in a team, but also operate well independently
  • Be fluent in English

And we are interested in hearing about the following:

  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure and best practices
  • Experience developing infographics
  • Experience maintaining or using professional AV equipment
  • Knowledge of Norwegian is a benefit, but not necessary

PRIO is located in attractive premises in central Oslo. We offer salary according to qualifications, group life insurance and a defined benefit pension plan in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. PRIO has a dynamic work environment with an international staff of approximately 100 members in full and part-time positions. The working language at the institute is English.
