Master of International Studies

This degree programme ended in 2013. The information on this page is kept for historical reasons.

Three institutions join forces in offering the master's degree programme in international political economy and conflict dynamics: Stellenbosch University in South Africa, the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and Bjørknes College. The programme brings together a small class of students and leading academics from South Africa and Norway. A Master of International Studies degree will be awarded by Stellenbosch University upon successful completion of all programme requirements.

Students spend one semester in Oslo, pursuing modules specially developed by staff at PRIO. Guest lecturers are used extensively during this semester, and many will be drawn from PRIO's ranks. The subsequent three semesters are spent at Stellenbosch University, outside Cape Town. At Stellenbosch, modules are taught primarily by academic staff of the Department of Political Science.

Three courses are taught in Oslo:

  • Nations and Regions
  • Conflict and Peace
  • Migration and Ethnicity
