Marta Bivand Erdal (PRIO) Project leader

Marta is a Human Geographer and Senior Researcher. She is the project leader and is responsible for Work Package 1: Theoretical-Empirical links (including the international components), Work Package 4: Micro: Individuals’ perceptions of ‘the nation’ in different geographic locations (Norway), and Work Package 5: Project Management and Information.

Rojan Ezzati (PRIO)

Rojan is a Sociologist and a Doctoral Researcher (on the NECORE project). She is contributing to Work Package 1: Theoretical-Empirical links, with a special emphasis on the French case.

Mette Strømsø (PRIO)

Mette is a Human Geographer and a Doctoral Researcher (on the NATION project). Her Doctoral Research is mainly within Work Package 4: Micro: Individuals’ perceptions of ‘the nation’ in different geographic locations (Norway), where she is responsible for data collection in four locations in Norway, and will collaborate with Marta on collecting school essays and conducting focus groups with pupils in upper secondary schools in four locations in Norway.

Katrine Fangen (University of Oslo)

Katrine Fangen is professor in sociology and Head of Department at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo. She is responsible for Work Package 2: 'The nation' as verbalised in official documents, parliamentary debates and in interviews with bureaucrats (Norway). Her research interests include national identity, right-wing extremism, racism, migration and exclusion/inclusion. She has published many books and journal articles within the fields of youth research, migration research, right-wing extremism and methodology.

Åshild Kolås (PRIO)

Åshild is a Social Anthropologist and PRIO Research Professor. She is responsible for Work Package  3: ‘The nation’ in media discourses (Norway). Her research interests include nationalism and nationhood, identity politics, conflict resolution and governance. She has conducted long-term fieldwork in Tibetan communities in India and China, and has written extensively on the politics and representation of identity.

Michael Collyer (University of Sussex)

Michael is a Human Geographer and a Reader, Sussex Centre for Migration Research.  He is contributing to Work Package 1: Theoretical-Empirical links, including a case-study of mosque building processes in the UK.

Thomas Lacroix (Université de Poitiers)

Thomas is a Geographer, a Political Scientist and a CNRS Research Fellow and associate director of  MIGRINTER. He is contributing to Work Package 1: Theoretical-Empirical links,  in particular on the French case.

Cathrine Talleraas (PRIO)

Cathrine is a Human Geographer and a Doctoral Researcher (on theTRANSWEL project). She is mainly contributing to Work Package 1: Theoretical-Empirical links, collecting and organizing media and policy documents from France and the UK. Her research interests include migration policy, migrant transnationalism and migration theory. She has conducted fieldwork in Norway, Kenya and Senegal, primarily in state and policy institutions.

Nina Høy-Petersen

Nina Høy-Petersen is a sociologist currently working as a research assistant on the NATION project, and for the University of Oslo's recently opened Center for Research on Extremism (C-REX). She is particularly interested in qualitative research on the topics of cosmopolitanism, radicalisation and far right extremism, phenomenology, embodiment, and gender'

Sonja-Beate Egge is a Master`s student at the institute of Social Anthropology, University of Oslo. She is writing her thesis on the relationship between national identity and Christianity in a multireligious Norway in affiliation with the NATION-project.

Emma Barkström

Emma Barkström is a Master’s student in Global Studies at the Albert – Ludwig’s University in Germany, FLACSO – Argentina and the Jawaharlal Nehru University of New Delhi in India. She is writing her Master’s thesis on “The negotiation of religious diversity in interfaith activities: A qualitative study among religious and faith communities in Oslo” in affiliation with the NATION project.

Brita is a Master's student in Human Geography at the University of Oslo. She will be writing her thesis on the experienced boundaries between religion and secularity in public space, focusing on religious buildings and symbols, in affiliation with the NATION project.
