Bergersen, Stine; Mareile Kaufmann; & Merle Missoweit (2014) DRIVER Deliverable 91.3 – Ethical Procedures, Risks and Safeguards, Driving Innovation For Crisis Management For European Resilience (DRIVER). Oslo: PRIO.

This deliverable introduces the concept of research ethics and why ethical considerations are crucial in DRIVER, and sets out the basic guidelines to be followed in order to uphold the high ethical standards required for the project.

These guidelines are e.g. those of the European Convention of Human Rights, the rules of the Convention of the Council of Europe for the protection of individuals with regard to the automatic processing of personal data (and especially the European Directive 95/46/EC39), national regulations by Data Protection Authorities relevant for the various DRIVER partners, and other regulations and guidelines (such as those of the Norwegian National Committee for Research Ethics in Science and Technology). Special attention is devoted to research ethics in the context of experiments, e.g. the importance and expected quality level of informed consent.
