The chapter recounts how China and Vietnam resolved their boundary disputes on land and in the Tonkin Gulf during 1991-2000, with huge positive effects for trade and cooperation. Then it argues that some features of the Tonkin Gulf agreement may serve as a basis for conflict resolution also in other parts of the South China Sea.
