​Palak Rao is an MA student at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, University of Oslo and is currently writing her thesis at PRIO. Prior to this, she sucessfully completed her BA (Hons) Media and Sociology from Goldsmiths, University of London where she researched on the Arab-Israeli conflict, warfare architecture and citizenship creation in Palestine. 

Her current thesis focuses on vigilante justice, especially mob lynchings for cow protection in India and how does this reframe the discourse on minority rights and identities in a secular democracy. In 2018, she was awarded the Fritt Ord scholarship by the Fritt Ord Foundation, Norway for her on-going fieldwork in India on Hindutva nationalism, cow-politics and minority rights.
