The conference will be divided into three main sessions, each focused on a specific thematic dimension and time horizon. The first will provide a historical perspective ("the past") on energy issues and a deeper understanding of the ongoing geopolitical dynamics. Session II will turn the attention on energy prospects in the region ("the present"), and their potential contribution to European energy security. In parallel, an effort will be made to realistically assess the peace potential of hydrocarbons in view of the rising regional challenges. The final session will discuss the emerging energy trends ("the future") and their influence on social, financial and (geo) political dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

This initiative is organized within the framework of New-Med, a research project developed by Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), in cooperation with the OSCE, the German Marshall Fund (GMF) of the United States, the Compagnia di San Paolo of Turin, and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
