Nils Petter Gleditsch, Peter Wallensteen, and Galia Golan were honored with the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Peace Studies Section of the International Studies Association at ISA’s recent annual convention in Atlanta, GA. The award honors ISA members with a substantial record of research, practice, publishing in the field of peace and conflict studies and, ideally, a record of service to the ISA. The award was presented at a roundtable on 15 March, followed by a reception. The citation recognizes Gleditsch’s strong normative commitment paired with his research and analytical skills, his service to the profession as editor of Journal of Peace Research for more than a quarter of a century, as well as his service to the ISA, notably as president of the organization in 2008–09. The citations to Gleditsch as well as Wallensteen also emphasized the collaboration between PRIO and the Uppsala Conflict Data Program on the development of new standard tools for empirical conflict research.
