This project will produce an overview of A) Nigerian immigration to Europe (including human smuggling, illegal immigration and asylum-related migration), B) Nigerian prostitution and slavery in Europe (including trafficking in persons), and C) The social, cultural and economic contexts of emigration from Nigeria. The linkages between these different phenomena will be emphasized. The principal output from the project will be a state-of-the art report for use by the Norwegian police, and inter-ministerial working group on human trafficking.
The final report was given extensive coverage in Dagsavisen.
There's a lot happening with migration research at PRIO. Today, Jørgen Carling will launch his new report: Fra Nigeria til Europa. Innvandring, menneskesmugling og menneskehandel [From Nigeria to Europe: Immigration, Human Smuggling and Human Trafficking]. In addition, Frida Nome recently launched her book Langs smuglerruta [The Smugglers' Trail]. Together, these two PRIO researchers published an op-ed in yesterday's Dagbladet: Hvem er menneskesmuglerne? [Who Are The Human Smugglers?]
PRIO has been commissioned by the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and the Police to carry out a project on Nigerian immigration, human smuggling and trafficking in Europe. The project, which will form part of the CRPB programme at PRIO, will be led by Jørgen Carling.
