The Aftermath of Hotspots

Led by Olga Demetriou
Jan 2017 - Dec 2017

This project will begin to develop comparative data collection on Greece and Cyprus, with a view to providing a basis for larger project bids covering a larger proportion of the region. This initial project will examine the situation in Greek hotspots in the Aegean and Athens in the aftermath of public attention that soared in 2015. It will thus ask what this attention left behind, both in terms of the local communities and in terms of the refugee and migrant communities which were at its centre. This will be compared to the nascent situation in Cyprus where refugee accommodation structures have not yet developed into hotspots.
