Topic: Changing Citizenship Statuses

​Prospective MA thesis would include a focus on one or more of the following themes:

  • Dual citizenship
  • Citizenship loss/revocation
  • Comparative citizenship policy analysis
  • Experiences of citizenship status change
  • Implications of citizenship status for migrant integration processes and outcomes
  • Media debates on citizenship (policy)

The MA thesis would be affiliated with the Governing and Experiencing Citizenship in Multicultural Scandinavia (GOVCIT) project, which sheds new light on relationships between citizenship and integration, through studying top-down policies and bottom-up lived experiences. The central question in the GOVCIT project is: What are the relationships between policies and laws on citizenship and experiences of belonging, recognition and sense of community?  

Geographic scope: drawing on empirical contexts in Scandinavia, or beyond (a research focus on countries in the Global South most welcome.

The MA thesis would be based on independent data collection by the student.
