André Glucksmann gave a talk for an audience of more than 200 at a seminar in Oslo on 28 April. His topic was West Versus West on the relationship between Europe and the USA and between countries in Western Europe. French philosopher and author André Glucksmann was born in 1937. He holds a degree in philosophy and works primarily at the Centre National de Recherché Scientifique. Considered in France as one of the leaders of the nouveaux philosophes, Glucksmann is the author of a number of remarkable books, including The Cook and the Man-Eater and The Master Thinkers. He also contributes frequently to numerous newspapers and magazines. A free thinker and an engaged intellectual, he is not afraid to go against the grain and was one of the few French intellectuals who supported the war in Iraq. He regularly decries the silence within Europe and the USA in relation to crimes against humanity still being committed in Chechnya. André Glucksmann will present and comment upon the divergences that have appeared at the centre of the Western world in general, and at the very centre of Europe in particular.
