PRIO operates with a project-based budget model, where research activities rely primarily on external funding, supplemented by a core grant from the Research Council of Norway.
Major sources of funding include the Research Council of Norway, the European Commission, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Ministry of Defense. In addition, a variety of international organizations and foundations also support individual projects.
