Interaction between European institutions and diasporas in conflict resolution and peacebuilding

Exiled populations – who increasingly refer to themselves as diaspora communities – hold a strong stake in the fate of their countries of origin. In an increasingly interconnected world, they engage in 'long-distance politics' towards their homelands, send financial remittances and support social development in their communities of origin. Transnational diaspora networks have thus become global forces shaping the relationship between countries, regions and continents. European institutions have recognized this fact, and are interested in engaging diasporas in peacebuilding. This website presents a sub-project of the larger DIASPEACE project. We aim to study and facilitate the two-way interaction between government institutions and civil society in Europe on the one hand, and diaspora organizations on the other.
