Peace by Development

Book Chapter

Tønnesson, Stein (2017) Peace by Development, in Bjarnegård, Elin; & Joakim Kreutz, eds, Debating the East Asian Peace: What it is. How it came about. Will it last?. Copenhagen: NIAS Press (55–77).

The chapter claims that the East Asian Peace was the cumulative effect of a series of national priority shifts in East Asian countries towards setting economic growth as the overriding national priority. Japan served a pioneer and model for priority shifts in South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Vietnam - and now Myanmar.
