Drugs, Lootable Resources, Governance, Corruption

Most research claims that lootable resources are a major factor in the outbreak of civil war because they provide funding for rebellion, but when endogenous relationships are modeled, we find little evidence to support this direct relationship. Instead our analysis demonstrates an indi-rect effect; drug production weakens government structures, which in turn leads to an increased probability of civil war.
