In the shadow of the massive destruction of Gaza and the creeping annexation of the West Bank, the UN agency responsible for the Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has been targeted politically and militarily. Funding has been slashed, staff and facilities have been attacked, yet UNRWA has continued working on the ground in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
Despite a renewal of its mandate, UNRWA is on the brink and faces an uncertain future. Its possible collapse would have catastrophic consequences for millions of Palestinian refugees and for regional stability more broadly.
To examine what is at stake, PRIO is proud to host UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini on 13 January 2026 at 15:00.
