On the 5th of March, European Institute for Gender Equality, EIGE, released the report Beijing +25: the fifth review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action in the EU Member States. The aim of the report is to track progress against the long-standing targets on gender equality in the Beijing Platform for Action and to address more recent challenges which has arisen in recent years, such as the rising backlash against gender equality.
Through Senior Researcher Louise Olsson, PRIO has contributed with expert advice into the sections on armed conflict and peaceful and inclusive societies. On the same day as EIGE's report was published, the EU also released its new Gender Equality Strategy for the 2020-2025 period. The strategy focuses is focused on the EU's internal work for Gender quality but also seeks to ensure coherence with the EU's external policy on gender equality and women's empowerment.
