PRIO Researchers Greg Reichberg and Samar Abbas Nawaz attended a recent summit on Responsible AI in the Military domain.

On 15-16 February, Dutch and South Korean governments co-organized the REAIM (Responsible AI in the Military domain) Summit in The Hague, the Netherlands. The Summit brought together scholars, policy makers and civil society organizations to discuss issues linked with military AI.

The summit saw 2500 attendees from 100 countries and 80 government representatives. A round table meeting was also held between government representatives from various states within and beyond Europe. For the responsible development and use of AI in the military domain, they all agreed to joint call to action.

From PRIO’s end, Greg Reichberg and Samar Abbas Nawaz attended the Summit. Samar spoke at the breakout session on ‘Realities of Algorithmic Warfare: Realities, Impact and Regulation’ where he discussed certain conceptual issues when it comes to regulating autonomous systems.
