PRIO is offering a PhD-level course examining how gender shapes all phases of the conflict cycle—from conflict risk and prevention to mediation and peacemaking. The course covers key themes including Women, Peace and Security (WPS) frameworks, sexual violence in armed conflict, children born of war, DDR processes, conflict mediation, and peace agreements, discussed in the context of shifting geopolitics, militarism, and growing pushback against gender norms.

Participants will engage with interdisciplinary research and take part in discussions with Norwegian diplomats and practitioners experienced in advancing gender perspectives and women’s inclusion in peace processes. The course is aimed at PhD-level participants, with preference given to those enrolled in or planning to pursue a PhD. Participants will receive a PRIO diploma, and the course may be counted as 5 ECTS (University of Oslo standards) upon submission of a 4,000-word paper.

The course is part of the NORHED II project Partnership for Peace: Better Higher Education for Resilient Societies and will take place in person at PRIO. Course details
