Interests and experience

My research is on political economy and economic history, and focuses on conflict, the military and institutional change. I have worked on the diffusion of violence, English political development, the causes of coups d'etat, the determinants of military interventions in politics, and the impact of riots on democratic change. I currently lead the Political Economy of Peace and Security research cluster in the department.

Gabriel Leon is a Lecturer in Political Economy in the Department of Political Economy. He was an undergraduate in Applied Mathematics at Harvard, did his PhD in Economics at Oxford, and was most recently the Bevil Mabey Fellow in Economics at St Catharine's College, University of Cambridge.
