The project aims to increase awareness and knowledge about migrant remittances and their implications for development cooperation within Norad and relevant partner institutions. Remittance flows to developing countries have grown rapidly in recent decades and are presently 50 per cent larger than total flows of official development assistance (ODA). Migrants’ transfers have significant effects on levels and trends of poverty in a large number of developing countries. It is important for development cooperation agencies to understand the role of these flows in the development process. There is a significant potential for interventions aiming to increase the development impact of migrant remittances, and potentials for integration with existing support to micro-finance and private sector development
This project has also contributed to knowledge about remittance flows from immigrants in Norway. It has spurred onsiderable media ettention, with coverage in Dagbladet, Aftenposten, Bistandsaktuelt, and other media.
