Diaspora Networks in Europe

Jun 2008 - Dec 2008

This project is part of the projectDiasporas for Peace: Patterns, Trends and Potential of Long-distance Diaspora Involvement in Conflict Settings. Case studies from the Horn of Africa’ (DIASPEACE). DIASPEACE is a three-year research project funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Program. It runs from 1 March 2008 to 1 March 2011, and is carried out by six renown European-based academic partners and two prominent research partners based in the Horn of Africa. DIASPEACE studies how diasporas (defined as exiled populations from conflict regions) shape the dynamics of conflict and peace in their home countries.

Diaspora Networks in Europe, funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, allows PRIO to be part of the first phase of DIASPEACE, which aims to map diaspora organizations with a background from the Horn of Africa who are operating in Europe and transnationally. The project will develop an interactive online D-base of these organizations in order to benefit the organizations and those who wish to assist them in their efforts.
