Time: Thursday, 27 May 2021 14:00-15:30
Place: Online event

In this recorded Teams meeting, we look into scenario methods in the context of digital technology and innovation in humanitarian action. The topic is introduced by Brita Fladvad Nielsen, Associate Professor at Department of Design, NTNU.

This webinar presents the basics of what scenario building is, and can be. In her presentation, Nielsen explains the principles of Forecasting, Backcasting, Worst case scenario approach, Planning games and Storytelling, with some concrete examples. A special focus is placed on complex and unpredictable futures with many variables and multiple stakeholder interests. Finally, the role of new technologies is discussed.

This is followed by an open roundtable discussion on how these methods can be applied to debates on the ethics of digital innovation in humanitarian action.

The meeting is chaired by Kristoffer Lidén, PRIO.

The webinar is organised by PRIO in collaboration with the project Do No Harm: Ethical Humanitarian Innovation and Digital Bodies, as part of a joint seminar series with the Norwegian Red Cross and the Norwegian Centre for Humanitarian Studies.
