The Gender Research Group has the pleasure of inviting you to a mini-seminar with Gina Torry, Gender and Security Expert, UN Department of Political Affairs (UNDPA), New York.
She will give a talk on: 'Ceasefire Agreements and the Protection of Civilians: Challenges and Opportunities in Negotiating Agreements that can Secure Peace and Protection'. The seminar will be chaired by Torunn L. Tryggestad. Coffee and tea will be served. Welcome! Gina Torry is a gender and security expert who has worked with the United Nations, UN Member States, regional organizations, and women's civil society groups and peacebuilding networks worldwide. Since 2010, she has worked with the United Nations Department of Political Affairs Mediation Support Unit as an expert in issues relating to conflict-related sexual violence and ceasefires. In collaboration with mediators and mediation experts, she finalized the DPA/United Nations "Guidance for Mediators on addressing Conflict-Related Sexual Violence in Ceasefire and Peace Agreements". A woman of many “hats” she is also currently the Director of Partnerships for the Peace Research Endowment (PRE). Gina is the former Coordinator of the NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security (2005-2008). She has authored several publications including “Financing Inclusive Peace and Security for Women in Nepal: From the Comprehensive Peace Agreement to the Nepal Peace Trust Fund”(2010, EC/UN). In 2007, Gina was invited, in her capacity as Coordinator of the NGO Working Group, to address the United Nations Security Council in an Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Comparative Literature and Political Science from the American University of Paris and a Masters of Science in Gender Studies from the London School of Economics.
