The webinar will examine the multi-dimensional implications of the recent escalation in the Middle East following the joint United States–Israel strike on Iran on February 28, 2026, which resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. As the conflict continues to unfold, several Eastern Mediterranean and Gulf states have become directly or indirectly drawn into it, heightening regional uncertainty.

The discussion will examine how these developments are impacting the Eastern Mediterranean, with a particular focus on Cyprus. Cyprus-based panelists will offer their insights on the implications for the country’s EU Presidency, regional security dynamics, potential migration pressures, and the spectrum of policy responses available at the national, European, and regional levels.
