In his lecture Jubin Goodarzi will explain the creation of Syrian-Iranian axis in the Middle East and beyond, the factors contributing to the importance and uniqueness of the alliance, the foreign policy objectives of the two partners, the six stages in the evolution of the alliance, major milestones, its changing power structure, and its salience in the post-2003 period (phase six) since the US-led war on Iraq.
Jubin M. Goodarzi is a professor and researcher in international relations at Webster University Geneva, and has been a consultant on Middle Eastern affairs with the United Nations since 1996. He has worked with a number of US and UK research institutes and foundations, including the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) in London, and the Ford Foundation in New York City.
Dr. Goodarzi is author of 'Syria and Iran: Diplomatic Alliance and Power Politics in the Middle East' (London: I.B. Tauris, 2006/2009) and numerous articles and book reviews on the Middle East, foreign policy and security issues. He holds a B.A. in International Studies from the American University, a M.A. in Arab Studies from Georgetown University, and a doctorate in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE).
