Dr. Luka Biong Deng will give a talk on the challenges facing the new state of South Sudan, in a presentation of his current work on the so-called "oil-curse" and the strategies to foster pro-poor agricultural growth. He will also look at the current situation of closure of oil production, and point out the options ahead for South Sudan.
Dr. Luka Biong Deng is a former Minister of Cabinet Affairs for the National Unity Government of Sudan and former Minister for Presidential Affairs for the Government of South Sudan, and has worked as a Senior Economist for the World Bank. He is currently Executive Director of Kush, Inc., a non-for-profit organization working to promote peace, stability and economic and infrastructure development in Africa, with an emphasis on South Sudan, as well as a visiting fellow at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex.
