Harmony or Cacophony? The 'concert of institutions' in divided societies
Please note: This page refers to an event that has already taken place.
Thu 13 (10:00) - Fri 14 (16:30) June 2013
PRIO and GIGA jointly host the second Institutions for Sustainable Peace (ISP) network conference in Oslo on 13 and 14 June 2013.
In post-war and divided societies, the promotion of political institutions such as federal state structures, specific electoral systems, party regulations, an inclusive government system, and a professional security sector and judiciary can reduce the risk of conflict recurrence. There is, however, only little knowledge on what institutional arrangements are really effective for conflict prevention. The second ISP conference, titled "Harmony or Cacophony? The 'concert of institutions' in divided societies" therefore aims to broaden the understanding of interactions between institutions and the interdependence between societal divisions and institutions following civil war. Scholars from 15 research institutions that form the ISP network gather in Oslo to discuss current research and future research projects on these topics.
