More fieldwork for the Pastoralism in China project was carried out in June-August 2010 to study herding policies and practices in the grasslands of Xilinguole, Inner Mongolia. This time the project leader Åshild Kolås conducted joint fieldwork with a team of researchers from our partner institute, the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology (IEA), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The research focused on grassland supervision and perceptions of grassland degradation among government officials, scientists and herders.
