On 27 June 2011 the project held its final conference on “Pastoralism in China Today”, hosted at IEA-CASS in Beijing.
Tashi Nyima (University of Oslo/PRIO) presented a paper at the 12th Seminar of the International Association for Tibetan Studies, which took place on 15-21 August 2010 at the Institute of Asian Research, University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Based on fieldwork for the Pastoralism in China project in Yushu, the paper was entitled 'The social construction of Sanjiangyuan: An analysis of China's sustainable development discourse in Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture'.
In October-November 2009, researchers Tashi Nyima (University of Oslo/PRIO) and Dongzhu Cairang (Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences) carried out joint fieldwork in Kautokeino for the Pastoralism in China project. The two researchers were hosted by the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry based in Kautokeino.
During June-August 2009, Åshild Kolås carried out seven weeks of fieldwork in China, researching the case of the Ewenki reindeer herders in Inner Mongolia.
In July and August 2008 researchers Åshild Kolås and Tashi Nyima visited Inner Mongolia and Beijing for their project on 'Pastoralism in China'.
