The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) has been awarded four framework agreements with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the period 2026–2030, strengthening the Institute’s role as a leading provider of research-based knowledge for Norwegian foreign and development policy.
PRIO received contracts within the following thematic areas:
- Conflict resolution, peacebuilding, multilateralism and humanitarian diplomacy
- Governance, development and poverty
- Democracy, gender equality and human rights
- Emerging technologies in relation to international politics and development
The agreements are part of the Ministry’s broader investment in research and policy analysis, aimed at supporting evidence-based decision-making in a rapidly changing international environment.
“These framework agreements confirm the relevance and quality of PRIO’s research across a broad range of issues that are central to international politics and global development,” said PRIO Acting Director, Haakon Gjerløw.
“At a time marked by geopolitical uncertainty, attacks on democratic and rapid technological change, independent research is more important than ever. We are pleased that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has chosen PRIO as a long-term knowledge partner.”
The agreements build on PRIO’s longstanding engagement with questions related to peacebuilding, governance, democracy and the international implications of emerging technologies. They will provide opportunities for new research and policy-oriented collaboration over the coming years.
The framework agreements open for commissioned analyses, enabling closer dialogue between researchers and policymakers on pressing international challenges.
PRIO researchers from across the Institute’s fields of expertise contributed to the successful applications, reflecting the institute’s interdisciplinary breadth and strong international profile.
The four new agreements will be signed following the standstill period ending on 13 May 2026.
