On Monday, the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize will be formally presented to Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege. PRIO congratulates the two laureates on the prize in recognition of their important work.

PRIO Director Henrik Urdal had placed Mukwege and Murad on his Nobel Peace Prize shortlist this year, and said it was well-deserved: ‘This is a prize to hold perpetrators of sexual violence in war accountable.’ Mukwege has been on the PRIO Director’s shortlists for the Peace Prize since 2010.

In 2017 Dr. Denis Mukwege and his colleague Dr. Christine Amisi visited PRIO to have informal discussions with PRIO researchers focused on joint research interests and collaboration. The relationship between PRIO, Panzi Hospital, and the International Center for Advanced Research and Training (ICART) dates back to the 2014-2016 project 'Female Empowerment in Eastern DRC'.

Dr. Amisi will visit PRIO on December 11 as a guest of honor to speak at the seminar 'Sexual Violence as a Weapon of War: Reflections on the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize'.
