Abraham, Anu; Marta Bivand Erdal & Patrick Nyheim Schjølberg (2025) Migration rhythms in trajectories of upward social mobility in Asia: Survey documentation. PRIO Paper. Oslo: PRIO.

This PRIO Paper documents the design, implementation and processing of survey data in the Migration Rhythms in Trajectories of Upward Social Mobility in Asia (MigrationRhythms) research project. The survey was conducted among 500 respondents from lower- to middle-middle-class households in four Asian cities: Hanoi (Vietnam), Karachi (Pakistan), Manila (Philippines) and Mumbai (India). The complete survey data set includes 2,016 respondents. Using a structured questionnaire administered via CAPI software, enumerators carried out face-to-face interviews with respondents selected through random sampling. The documentation details the survey objectives, methodology, sampling strategy and data collection process, ensuring transparency and reliability. By providing a clear account of both procedures and outcomes, this report serves as a resource for users of the open access dataset available on Zenodo, as well as for researchers interested in designing surveys, in particular multi-sited, multilingual and/or quasi-longitudinal surveys.
