The WPS agenda has paved the way for new understandings, responses and conversations about how we understand war and conflict, as well as peacebuilding. There are, however, voices who claim that more could have been done, and that implementation is too slow. Others argue that increasing political polarization in other policy areas also impacts the WPS agenda, in profound ways. Few claim that the goals of increasing women’s political participation in decision-making processes related to peace and conflict, preventing and protecting gender-based violence, and ensuring that humanitarian responses also factor in gender differences in their programs, have been achieved. Could it be that the wish that more had been achieved, overshadows great changes that have taken place? If we scrutinize the WPS prevention and protection, my contention is that much has been achieved, although much remains to be done.
