While the Journal of Peace Research (JPR) has long been highly ranked on the Web of Science/Thomson Reuter's Journal Citation Reports, 2015 was a record year for PRIO's leading international journal. JPR has increased its Impact Factor by nearly 50% from 2014 to 2015, earning the journal a top-three placement globally on both the Political Science and the International Relations lists. JPR is the highest ranked European journal in both categories.

The journal's two-year Impact Factor, the most used metric of journal influence measuring the average number of citations to articles published in the last two volumes, increased strongly from 2.280 last year to 3.387 in 2015. This is the highest impact factor ever achieved by the journal, and it is the first time that JPR places top three on both lists.

JPR is now ranked #3 in Political Science (up from #6 in 2014) behind Political Analysis and the American Political Science Review and #2 in International Relations (#5 last year) only behind International Security.

The journal also continues to climb on the more stable five-year Impact Factor, placing #5 on the Political Science and #4 on the International Relations lists. In the past years JPR has published a high number of influential articles in a broad field of peace research, and the most crucial success factor was the highly cited and widely read 2012 special issue on Climate Change and Conflict.
