Helskog's PhD research will continue to focus on attacks on education, building on her work with the EdAttack project at PRIO, led by Gudrun Østby. At Oxford, she will be supervised by Professor Robin Harding and Professor Inken von Borzyskowski, where she will further investigate why schools, students, and teachers become targets of violence during armed conflict. While embarking on this new chapter, Helskog will remain affiliated with the EdAttack project and continue her collaboration with the research team.
The Aker Scholarship is one of Norway's most prestigious scholarship programmes and is awarded to outstanding students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievements and the potential to make meaningful contributions to society. Recipients are selected not only for their academic excellence, but also for their personal qualities and leadership potential.
During her time at PRIO, Helskog has contributed to research on both the causes and consequences of attacks on education. Her Master’s thesis examined why armed groups target schools and other educational institutions during armed conflict, while she recently co-authored a study on Children's schooling in the context of attacks on education together with Gudrun Østby & Roos Haer.
"We are incredibly proud of Kristine and this well-deserved achievement. She has been an invaluable member of the EdAttack project, and we are excited to continue collaborating with her on this important topic as she pursues her doctoral studies at Oxford", says Østby.
PRIO congratulates Kristine on this accomplishment and wishes her the very best for her studies and future research.
