Sonja Häffner works as a Machine Learning Developer at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) on the Violence & Impacts Early-Warning System (VIEWS) project. Her work focuses on building and maintaining machine learning pipelines that help analyze data and support early warning efforts in conflict research. She is particularly interested in using text data, such as news articles, to better understand and predict patterns of violence. In her work, she applies modern AI and machine learning methods to improve the accuracy and usefulness of these models.

Before joining PRIO, she worked as a research associate at the Center for Crisis Early Warning in Munich, where she worked on incorporating text data into models for forecasting armed conflict. She holds a Master’s degree in Economics.
