On the 12-13 November 2023, the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS), the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) jointly hosted a closed expert workshop on “Afghan Taliban governance and decision making, potential ways forward to secure girls’ education.” The workshop took place in Doha and involved a diverse group of Afghan and non-Afghan participants including NGO and civil society representatives, officials from international organisations, and academics.

The objective of the workshop aligns with a commitment – shared by the three hosting institutions – to upholding humanitarian standards through the promotion of research, dialogue, and sustained engagement. The workshop was designed with the ultimate goal of contributing to humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding efforts in Afghanistan in the context of a challenging transitional process.
