How does the Catholic Church approach the task of supporting children and youth in “Learning to be Catholic”? This chapter examines strategies of the Catholic Church in Poland, Germany, Norway, and Scotland. The countries were selected due to variations in the Catholic Church as a majority / minority actor, the roles of parish catechesis and in-school Religious Education, patterns of Catholic emigration / immigration, and the character of Religious Education in public schools. Our findings reveal differences in the roles assigned to parish catechesis vs. in-school Catholic Religious Education. We also find creativity and challenges in bridging considerations related to migrant pastoral care and “Learning to be Catholic” respectively.
