Background
Dr Alaa Tartir is a Research Associate at the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP) at The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva, Switzerland. Tartir is also a Researcher and Lead Coordinator of the Security Assessment in North Africa and Sahel-Sahara (SANA) project at the Small Arms Survey (SAS). Additionally, Tartir is a Policy and Program Advisor to Al-Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network, and a Visiting Professor at Sciences Po, Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA). Amongst other positions, Tartir was a Fellow at The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), a Visiting Scholar and Lecturer at Utrecht University (NL), a Visiting Fellow and Lecturer at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology (ANSO) at IHEID, and a Researcher in International Development Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he earned his PhD. Tartir is the author of Policing Palestine: Securitising Peace and Criminalising Resistance in the West Bank (Pluto Press, 2021), the editor of Outsourcing Repression: Israeli-Palestinian Security Coordination (AMEC, 2019), and the co-editor of Political Economy of Palestine: Critical, Interdisciplinary, and Decolonial Perspectives (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021), and Palestine and Rule of Power: Local Dissent vs. International Governance (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019).
