Private businesses are increasingly recognized as essential actors in defence and societal preparedness across the Nordic region. As governments, industries and societies adapt to a more challenging security environment, cooperation between the state and private sector has become a central component of resilience and preparedness planning.
The 2026 Oscarsborg Symposium will bring together leading decision-makers and experts in the private and public sectors, with support from prominent scholars from across the Nordic region, to examine how business-state cooperation is organised, how it differs between countries and sectors, and what lessons can be drawn to support stronger Nordic coordination.
Discussions will compare approaches across the Nordic countries and explore experiences from two sectors that are critical to defence and preparedness: grocery retail and emerging technologies, with a particular focus on drones and robotics. The symposium will consider how varying models of cooperation create different risks and opportunities for businesses operating in an evolving security economy.
The symposium provides an exclusive forum for open dialogue on shared Nordic challenges in defence and preparedness. The two-day event is supported by the Sat Sapienti Foundation.
