Join us for the launch of PRIO’s annual global conflict overview, Conflict Trends: A Global Overview, 1946–2025.

The new report will reveal alarming developments in the global security landscape, including a sharp rise in direct confrontations between states, persistently high levels of violence and increasing regional spillover effects across multiple conflicts.

At this event, researchers will present key findings from the global report and discuss what the latest conflict data tell us about the changing nature of war, international security and prospects for peace.

The discussion will explore questions such as:

  1. Why are interstate conflicts increasing again after decades dominated by civil wars?
  2. What are the implications of increasingly interconnected and internationalized conflicts?
  3. Why is violence becoming concentrated in a smaller number of countries?

The report is based on data from the Uppsala Conflict Data Program and provides a global overview of state-based conflicts, non-state conflicts and one-sided violence against civilians.

Speakers

  1. Presentation by Therese Petterson, Research Coordinator, Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University
  2. Siri Aas Rustad, PRIO Research Director
