Major General Kristin Lund was the first female Force Commander in a United Nations peacekeeping operation. In this new GPS Policy Brief Lund reflects on her experiences in the field during deployment in Cyprus and describes how being the first female Force Commander allowed her greater access to both military and civilian populations.

Kristin Lund, Practitioner in Residence at PRIO, is one of the key speakers at the Oslo Pax conference on Wednesday the 7th of October. The title of this year's conference is DIVERSITY MATTERS - Gender and inclusion in peace and war.
In February, Major General Kristin Lund, Practitioner in Residence at PRIO, attended seminars in both Mali and the Netherlands. In 2014 Lund became the first woman Force Commander in UN history as the Force Commander of the United Nations Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP). In 2017 Lund was appointed Head of Mission of the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in Jerusalem.
