Hanne is in 2010 finalising her doctoral dissertation on the role of religion in the Israel Defense Force (IDF). The dissertation is based on a series of interviews with IDF soldiers, and will be submitted to the Department of Religious Studies, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (see: www.ntnu.no/arv).
She has also conducted extensive research on settlement issues and settler movement in the West Bank. Hanne's research is qualitative and interview based. General focus is on the Middle East, Israeli politics, religion, military studies, Israeli settlements, conflict, and culture.
Hanne is attached to PRIO's research project "Comparative Ethics of War" at the Ethics, Norms and Identities (ENI) programe. She was also part of the "Missing Peace: Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding in the Middle East"-group.

Written with the general reader in mind, the book provides a personal account of Røislien's encounters with various individuals and groups in the Middle East.

PRIO is organizing an international conference to highlight the role and potential of religion in peacemaking processes. The conference is entitled 'Mapping the Terrain: Religion in Diplomacy and Peacemaking' .
The Research Council of Norway has approved a new three-year SIP (Strategic Institute Project) at PRIO. The new project will be entitled The Missing Peace: Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding in the Middle East.
