Since September 2007 engaged as a researcher on the PRIO project 'Conflict Prevention in a DDR Context in Haiti'.
The project is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This project has its focus on local capacities for the prevention of violence in Haiti. The objective is to identify models of conflict prevention rooted in Haitian traditions or adaptable to the Haitian context, currently dominated by a large international demobilization, disarmament and reintegration (DDR)operation.
Alain Gilles (Ph.D. in Sociology, Columbia), University College professor and currently vice-president in charge of academics at the university of Quisqueya, Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Gilles has also taught in Canada, and has collaborated with journals such as Amérique Latine (Paris), Reveu Canadienne des etudes lation-americaines et caraïbe (Canada), Collectifs Paroles (Canada) and the Journal of International Affairs.
