PRIO researchers have been prolific contributors to the field of humanitarian studies in 2018. The contributions are mainly in the field of humanitarian technology and refugee management.
“Food Security Debates in India: Experiences from the Grassroots” was hosted by the UNESCO Chair for Peace and Intercultural Understanding – Malaviya Centre for Peace Research, Banaras Hindu University, and co-organised by the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) and Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO).

Elida Kristine Undrum Jaocobsen has on Monday 25 May 2015 successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled ”Unique Biometric IDs: Governmentality and Appropriation in a Digital India” at the School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg.
In an attempt to analyse how gendered political power transforms in situations of conflict, WISCOMP organised a Policy Dialogue titled "Women and Peacebuilding" with the underlying assumption that differences in the forms and expressions of gendered power relations, during and after conflict, impact on how "empowerment" can be achieved. The publication "Women and Peacebuilding: Engendering Policy" gives an overview of the presentations and debates at the Policy Dialogue.
Hosted by WISCOMP (Women in Security Conflict Management and Peace) in New Delhi, 21-22 February 2015, the PRIO project Making Women Count for Peace co-organised the Roundtable event Women and Peacebuilding: A Policy Dialogue. The Roundtable brought together Indian Members of Parliament and participants from the public service, academia, media, corporate and NGO sectors, with a view to open up spaces of dialogue on the impact of violence on women and men in areas of conflict.
The Mahanirban Calcutta Research Group (MCRG) and the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) are jointly organizing the International Conference on "Gender, Empowerment and Conflict in South Asia". This is the final conference for a collaborative project entitled Making Women Count for Peace: Gender, Empowerment and Conflict in South Asia. Funded by the Research Council of Norway's INDNOR and NORGLOBAL programmes, the project aims to generate new knowledge and debate on women's empowerment and the challenges facing implementation of UNSCR 1325 in Nepal and India. With a focus on Northeast Indian experiences and a comparative look at Nepal, the project addresses the role of women in local governance and politics, particularly within the context of peace and security processes.
How does the digitalization of communication impact the way we understand, communicate and act upon risk? How will the integration of digital technologies into our everyday life transform risk communication? Will risk management be enhanced or challenged by new public awareness of risk emerging through new technologies of communication? A team based in the Security Research Group will explore these questions through DIGICOM, a project newly funded by the Research Council of Norway's Societal Security program.
Participants in this workshop discussed and shared information about the efforts of women in post-conflict Nepal to promote peace and women’s empowerment, whether as activists, members of social movements, politicians, writers, or in any other capacity. The objective of the workshop was to gain a better understanding of the efforts and challenges, and the meaning of empowerment as seen by women themselves.
