The main objective of NordSTEVA is to map and critically analyse the relationship between security technologies and societal values. This implies exploring, on the one hand, the concentration of technologies that promise to provide for human needs and, on the other, to link these to the cultural traditions – including religion, language, politics, and economics – that make up the societal values that we deem most worthy of protection.
Bruno Oliveira Martins was interviewed by CNN for a news video focusing on the use of drones during the COVID-19 pandemic. The video report illustrates the different uses of drones, from humanitarian relief to surveillance, and it showcases both the potential of drone technology and the problems associated with it.
The Research School on Peace and Conflict invites applications for the course Societal security: critical perspectives, to take place at VUB-IES in Brussels on 17-19 October 2018. The deadline for applications is 15 August 2018.
